Compared with other centuries, life has never been easier for the much of the Western world. We are constantly entertained, amused, and catered to. With all the fascinating attractions, mesmerizing media (iPhones!), and enjoyable experiences available today, it's easy to forget that the pursuit of happiness is not what life is about.
Only as we remember that life is a test, a trust, and a temporary assignment will the appeal of these things lose their grip on our lives. We are preparing for something even better (Heaven!). "The things we see now are here today, gone tomorrow. But the things we can't see now will last forever." 2 Corinthians 4:18.
This reminds me that even though things in the world are great and exciting, we are not made for this world...we are made for something even better! And, the purpose of our lives is for something even better than what the world offers (your job, your social status, etc.). It's for something we can't see now.
Our purpose is not in our job, our looks, our relationships, etc. It's in something far better, far more fulfilling...
Our purpose is to know God and make Him known. What a perfect purpose! I don't think someone could make up a better purpose if you tried. We know God personally by trusting in Jesus Christ to pay the penalty for our sins and to lead our lives...and we make God known by talking about Him, reading about Him, doing what we can to put him #1 in our lives.
Anyway, this book, The Purpose Driven Life, is awesome and I'm so glad I'm reading it right now. I read it back in the fall of 2003 and it's neat to go back and look at the answers to all of my questions - waaaay before married life and a baby!
Here's some more good stuff too...Avery eating oatmeal mixed with bananas...mmmm...so good!
Avery is so cute! Don't you just love those little noises they make now. Melts my heart! Alli smacks her lips too and it makes me laugh every time. Wish our girls could hang out! :) Thanks too for sharing your heart. It's really motivating to me to really get in the Word and to be reminded of why we're here. I appreciate you! :)
